ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITIY

Black & McDonald’s Ottawa team is growing! If you are an independent, enthusiastic, and driven professional searching for an opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you.

This opportunity relates to the modernization of the heating and cooling energy distribution systems to over 80 buildings in the National Capital Region. The project involves design and construction of four new central heating and cooling plants plus associated distribution piping networks and building conversions over a period of five years, under a Joint Venture Partnership with another leading major Contractor. Black and McDonald is responsible for the design and construction of all mechanical and electrical work for the project. The position will be located at the project office, and will report to the Site Project Manager.

The Mechanical Project Coordinator will be responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating and supporting technical workflow on assigned engineering, procurement, and construction projects related to the mechanical field. The successful candidate will report directly to the Project Manager.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Project Manager to ensure project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards are in accordance with company policy and contract specifications are met;
  • Assist in planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines;
  • Assist in preparing contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors;
  • Assists in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts;
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs;
  • Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships;
  • Coordination of shop drawings, RFI’s and SI’s
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients;
  • Trade and subcontractor coordination;
  • Coordinate with document control;
  • Purchase supplies and materials as required to complete project
  • Ensure site is operating in accordance with health, safety and environmental standards
  • The successful candidate may be required to perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A College Diploma in Construction or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.

The following certifications/designations are considered an asset

  • Gold Seal Certification
  • Construction safety certifications

Experience in the trades may substitute for education requirements.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-3 year experience in the construction industry is required.
  • Experience in drafting practices for mechanical building systems is an asset.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge and understanding of:
    • Contract management;
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution;
  • Estimating;
  • Established construction practices, procedures, and techniques;
  • Business operations processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Project and Outlook
  • Proficiency in the following design software: Revit, AutoCad, QuickPen PipeDesigner 3D,and QuickPen DuctDesigner 3D
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to establish a strong working relationship with co-workers, vendors and clients
