Reporting to the Traffic Signals ITS Manager, or their designate, this is an entry level position. The Electronics Engineering Technologist is responsible for learning various technologies and devices within the traffic controls and ITS industries and providing technical support to the Electrical Trades and project team. This support role also assists in aspects of traffic signal designs, construction, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting. Day to day task include collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions. This position will have a strong understanding of Logic, timing circuits, relays, AC/DC theory, excel in hands-on experience in lab environments, and proficiency in both PC and MAC platforms are essential.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in working on low voltage traffic control devices, and support in testing and troubleshooting various Traffic Control and ITS equipment
  • Always learning and obtaining in-depth knowledge of specialized devices in Traffic Controllers, ITS equipment, and related controls and communications
  • Provide necessary technical support for Trades and project teams in areas of Traffic, ITS and Streetlighting in Construction and Maintenance
  • Assist and support in testing and troubleshooting of various Traffic Control and ITS field equipment
  • Support in bench testing traffic controls and completing necessary documentation
  • Completing electrical as-builts, in PDF and CAD
  • Working with manufactures and vendors on issues such as failures and warranty issues
  • Learn and use various proprietary PC software to setup and program specialized traffic control devices
  • Assist quality team on technical issues when and as needed
  • Assist trades field personnel in Traffic Maintenance and documentation
  • Assist with additional project-related tasks as assigned

EDUCATION & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Graduate of Electronics Engineering Technology – 2 year diploma program
  • Eligible for ASET membership and CET program or CET designation
  • Excellent in logic, programming, communications, and troubleshooting
  • Proficient in Electrical AC/DC Theory
  • Good comprehension of Ethernet networks and IP devices
  • Good communication skills
  • Efficient in both PC and MAC operating systems, working with laptops
  • CAD experience would be considered an asset
  • Excel’s in a lab environment with strong abilities for hands-on work and tasks • Willing and able to travel to sites, throughout Alberta
  • Clean, Valid Driver’s License
