Primary responsibility will be for the execution of piping fabrication projects in its entirety including; analyzing costs and preparing project estimates, safety compliance, people and resources, scheduling, budgeting, client relations, project execution, profit/loss outcomes, and the overall conduct of Black & McDonald Limited’s performance as it relates to the designated project(s). In addition to the successful planning, execution, monitoring, control and closure of project(s). Superior leadership and management to the project in accordance with company beliefs, policies, procedures, and objectives. The Pipe Fabrication Project Manager reports directly to the Division Manager. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Project Management

  • Plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and monitor progress against established schedules
  • Develop work packages for shop fabrication
  • Prepare contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships to enhance competitiveness in the industry and promote good customer relationships
  • Manage the implementation of quality control programs
  • Represent company on matters such as business services
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients
  • Hire and supervise the activities of union labour, subcontractors and subordinate staff
  • Review work/contracts/WIP for areas of risk, update WIP report and correct deficiencies
  • Manage the implementation of Company and legislated Health and Safety Programs, including Tool Box meetings, safety procedures, and compliance to PPE
  • Solicit and submit shop drawings between vendors and owners for approval
  • Subcontractor Coordination
  • Monthly progress billings
  • Coordinate tools and equipment
  • Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships to enhance competitiveness in the industry and promote good customer relationships


  • Prepare estimates of probable costs of materials, labour and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications using AccuBid Enterprise software
  • Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and conduct negotiations.
  • Adherence to Black & McDonald Construction Business Processes
  • Business development relating to fabrication piping opportunities as directed by Division Manager
  • Establish and maintain tendering process, set up cost monitoring, reporting systems and procedures.
  • Coordinates price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders
  • Participates in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and operational meetings with the Senior Estimator and Project Managers as required
  • Adherence to Black & McDonald Sub-Contractor Management Program
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Update and maintain Accubid data base for fabrication estimating
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimate.

Post-Secondary Education in

  • Engineering or construction technology


  • 5+ years Project Management Experience in a similar industrial construction environment
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience estimating industrial piping projects
  • Managerial experience in a union environment
  • Contract Management


Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Blue print reading and project/structural design interpretation
  • Proven relationship building skills and existing client relationships within the Construction Industry
  • Previous experience with proven ability to learn specific software applications
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license
