The Business Development Representative is located in Edmonton and typically reports directly to the Service Division Manager.

The Business Development Representative will oversee a geographical or vertical market and will be responsible for prospecting potential new clients in the assigned market, uncovering needs, providing mechanical and HVAC related solutions, and entering into service agreements with new clients. Primary duties include:

  • Researching, cold calling and setting up meetings with potential clients
  • Utilize proven sales methods to identify and solicit potential clients for future service work
  • Meet with and develop impressionable relationships with potential clients to successfully understand their needs and specific requirements
  • Assess potential client needs and resources and recommend the appropriate solution
  • Develop and maintain communications in a cooperative and professional manner with all levels of internal staff and customers
  • Work with Project Representative and provide input where non contractual HVAC related services must be tailored to suit clients’ needs
  • Develop reports and proposals as part of sales presentation to potential clients
  • Prepare sales agreements under the direction of the Sales team
  • Price the agreement according to Black & McDonald’s pricing standards
  • Prepare start-up documents for set up and attend start-up meetings with new clients
  • Keep internal software and database up to date with sales activities
  • Provide technical, process or estimating support during project design or proposal phase
  • Assist as needed in developing the customer business case for project solution
  • Lead or support detailed estimating of projects
  • Build detailed cost estimate and scope of work in conjunction with operations and sales staff
  • Assist in preparing proposals and other customer communication documents
  • Perform detailed estimating analysis to quantify cost savings or other cost benefits
  • Assist in technical or financial benchmarking as needed
  • Perform on-site data collection at customer facilities required to perform detailed estimates
  • Participate in meetings with Operations and Sales to ensure project scope and objectives, timeline and customer requirements are properly understood

  • A university degree or college diploma in Business, Marketing, Engineering or related field
  • Technical knowledge or training in HVAC, mechanical or facilities would be considered an asset


  • 1-3 years’ experience in sales and preparing proposals or contracts
  • Experience in the trades would be considered an asset but not a prerequisite


  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Willing and able to travel, as required
  • Competency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Competency in web based sales tracking software such as SalesForce
