Based in Calgary, the Plow Operator is responsible for performing activities relating to operation of machinery on utility (electrical and civil) construction sites. They will also assist with provide labor with site superintendent and site personnel in order to accomplish project milestones in a safe, efficient, and effective manner. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Safely and appropriately operate a Vibratory Plow.
  • Machines to operate are either D6 Dozer with a Bron Plow or a Vermeer plow.
  • Safely operate equipment in the installation of Underground Utilities
  • Responsible for the safe operation and basic maintenance of the organization's equipment
  • Read and interpret blueprints, stakes, and signage
  • Coordinate and organize daily activities of all crew members and equipment
  • Perform and log pre-operation safety inspections
  • Prepare and coordinate safety tool box talks and complete pre-job hazard assessments
  • Fuel and Grease Equipment to maintain safe and optimal operation
  • General Labour duties and other activities at construction site as required
  • Out of town travel will occasionally be required

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma
  • Class 3 Driver’s License with Airbrakes, Class 1 is preferred (DL and CSTS)

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to operate vibratory plow machines (At least 3 years’ experience)
  • 2-5 years' experience working in the construction industry in an operator role
  • Class 1 Driver’s License (or 3) with Air Brakes

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have the following tickets: CSTS, Air Breaks, and Ground Disturbance
  • Possess a valid, Alberta Drivers License and a clean driving abstract
  • Knowledge of vehicle and equipment safety
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-directed and self-starter with the ability to work with little supervision or as part of a team

Construction Safety Certifications including the following are considered assets:

  • Ground Disturbance Certification
  • Confined Space Awareness/Rescue
  • Fall Arrest
  • WHMIS
  • First Aid
  • Willing and able to travel to various sites in and around Calgary
  • Drug and Alcohol Security clearance requirements
