Black & McDonald’s Power Generation team is growing! The Operations Manager position is located at our office located in Tiverton, Ontario and reports directly to the Regional Vice President.

The Operations Manager is responsible to plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate, through middle managers overall operations at the Bruce Power project site. The Operations Manager in conjunction with the Regional Office will develop the Divisional business plan and be responsible to deliver the business plan including booked projects and future sales in accordance with Corporate Policy. The Operations Manager will have overall responsibility to ensure that the work is performed in accordance with Black & McDonald’s Safety Policy and Code of Business.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safety
    • To ensure that the Division is in compliance both procedurally and in spirit, with provincial, client and company occupational health and safety regulations
  • Service Quality
    • Demonstrate excellent customer relations both internally and externally

  • Planning
    • Continue to recruit new people and develop staff capability to grow the business
    • Select the site management team and key positions for the Division
    • Allocate material, human and financial resources to implement company policies and programs; establish financial and administrative controls; formulate and approve promotional campaigns’ and approve overall personnel planning
    • Participate in all aspects of the annual planning process to develop process improvement initiatives and Divisional goals and objectives
  • Objectives
    • To establish Divisional objectives that define the key results areas (sales, margins and safety performance) of the Division and review them quarterly with all key staff
    • Establish objectives for the company and formulate or approve policies and new programs
  • Financial
    • Meet or exceed booked and planned sales and margin targets
  • Business Development
    • Develop Business Development plans that will increase market share, product quality and brand recognition
    • Foster Client relationships that will enable the company to identify new and unique business opportunities
    • Represent the company in a Senior Management capacity and act on behalf of the company in negotiations or other official functions
  • Risk
    • To encourage all staff to evaluate ricks versus opportunity and to continually assess exposure therefore minimizing risk to the company particularly in large construction projects
  • Leadership
    • To foster a climate within the Division where enthusiasm and morale results in achievement of Divisional objectives, good future business opportunities, and an atmosphere where outsiders wish to work
    • To provide Leadership where employees know what is expected, know how they can contribute and are rewarded when results meet or exceed expectations

    • Annual Marketing and Business Plans are in place and are implemented and reviewed monthly.
    • Adequate controls are in place, and are implemented and reviewed for estimating, tendering, purchasing, subcontracting and accounting
    • All systems, policies and procedures employed in the Division meet that stipulated in the Corporate Policy
    • Man hours and labour productivity are the primary focus of job management, and weekly reports are produced and reviewed
    • Fully funded clients and good cash flow are the primary focus of administration and are reviewed bi-weekly

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of secondary school
  • A university degree or college diploma in engineering, business administration, commerce or other discipline related to the company’s product would be an asset

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Several years of experience as a middle manager in construction is usually required

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Computer Literacy and Intermediate proficiency; Microsoft Word, Outlook
  • Shall be a competent person as defined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act
  • Analytical with strong problem solving skills

  • A Security Clearance will be required
