Black & McDonald’s Southern Ontario Utilities team is growing! If you are committed and collaborative professional looking to contribute to a hard-working, innovative team, this opportunity is for you. The mechanic position is based out of Scarborough and reports directly to the Garage Supervisor.

This role provides inspection, maintenance, service and repair to ensure utility fleet vehicles and equipment remain operational and safe for use. Common equipment serviced includes aerial device vehicles (i.e., bucket trucks), radial boom derricks, light duty vehicles, trailers, small machinery, etc.

Duties Include:

  • Minimize operational downtime by addressing minor and major defects on commercial assets.
  • Ensure timely and cost-efficient troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance pertaining to fleet assets.
  • Provide estimates for major repair activities, as necessary.
  • Prepare work orders for all work performed.
  • Review work orders and understand priorities from the garage supervisor regularly.
  • Ensure all orders and purchasing activates are approved or performed in accordance with authority limits.
  • Examine and diagnose fleet vehicle and equipment problems for safety or service work.
  • Perform repairs, maintenance, and service on light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks – electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs, etc.
  • Perform thorough inspections and preventative maintenance for fleet assets – including annual safety and PM’s
  • Communicate regularly with management on job / schedule status.
  • Complete all work priorities as established by fleet / garage leadership.
  • Some welding skills is considered an asset.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid 310T

WORK EXPERIENCE / JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience as a 310T mechanic
  • Possess a clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Experience repairing hydraulic and aerial devices is an asset
  • Experience with utility vehicles (e.g., Boom Trucks, Radial Boom Derricks, Arial Devices, Crane trucks, etc.)
  • License requirements: G – required. DZ/AZ is considered an asset
