Black & McDonald’s NOR (North Ontario Region) Service team is growing! If you are an independent, enthusiastic and driven professional searching for an opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager and will be working within the Service group primarily located in Ottawa.

This is a technical sales and project management role. While it requires a technical foundation in solution design, estimating and project management, it is also an entrepreneurial role. The most successful candidates and employees in this role will be able to grow our business by selling and negotiating proactively with increasingly senior decision makers. The type of projects they can help our clients with, will be increasingly critical and beneficial to both, them and us. Success in this role will open the door over time to increasingly important positions here at Black & McDonald. We’re looking for ambitious people!

As a Project Management/Sales Representative, you will primarily be responsible for selling projects to our existing clients. As a member of the Service Sales Team, you will work with our clients to design and estimate solutions that achieve their business objectives and assist in the development of long-term client relationships with Black & McDonald. This position involves:

  • Working on a full range of mechanical service projects opportunities including Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Building Automation Controls, Gas/Propane and Oil work in the commercial, retail, manufacturing and institutional markets.
  • The ability to understand client requirements and develop solutions to meet their needs.
  • The ability to prepare, present and sell personalized written proposals, with energy analysis and cost justifications for existing and new clients.
  • Maintaining and enhancing client relationships through ongoing business development.
  • The skill to qualify opportunities, negotiate client needs and gain commitment.
  • Prepare estimates for our various service offerings, design and develop custom solutions adapted to our customers’ needs.
  • Completing concise reporting of sales backlog, sales plan activity and monthly results (Salesforce).
  • Supporting our service group and maintaining strong communications with the technicians in the field.
  • Arranging for the purchasing of materials as well as assist in the scheduling, planning and implementation of secured projects.
  • Consulting and communicating with our business partners: suppliers, sub-contractors, utilities and inspectors.
  • Possessing a desire for continued personal and professional development.

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • High level of professionalism, ethics, confidentiality and accuracy with fellow employees and clients.

  • Bilingual in French & English considered an asset.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma from a Mechanical program or Technology program would be an asset.
  • Years of experience as a qualified tradesperson in the construction mechanical and/or HVAC industry may substitute for education requirements.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in Commercial and Industrial mechanical systems, and/or in a technical occupation related to HVAC, Electrical or Plumbing would be considered an asset.
  • Previous sales and customer service experience would be considered an asset.
  • Estimating experience would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience within the service business would be considered an asset.
  • Previous project management experience would be an asset.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of mechanical HVAC, controls, piping and related equipment.
  • Motivated and able to work with deadlines.
  • Organization and time management.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills are required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Project).
