ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald, Salt Lake City is actively seeking a GIS Specialist to be responsible for mapping and maintaining GIS information for projects. Projects may involve surveying, electrical engineering, electrical distribution design, overhead and underground electrical line distribution, NESC codes, requirements and regulations as well as joint attachment audits and pole loading software.

WHAT YOU WILL DO IN YOUR ROLE

  • Field Survey
  • Bluestakes and Permits
  • Utilize survey information and develop plans and maps.
  • Perform tasks such as digitizing, copying and scanning of drawings, prints and maps.
  • Follow quality practice and procedures by self-checking all work product and checking the work of others as required.
  • Follow safety procedures.
  • Maintain the GIS with information from sources including, but not limited to, work management systems, as-built construction drawings, work orders, completion records, field reports or other information from the job sponsor.
  • Process and approve completion records, perform manual or computer aided drafting using AutoCAD.
  • Perform and update records to cities, utilities, and also update JDE.

Employment Requirements

  • GIS degree preferred, or 1 year experience with ArcGIS, ESRI, AutoCAD, Micro station, or advanced CAD application, preferably in a utility environment or transferable skills to adapt to a utility environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in GIS, advanced CAD or graphical representation.
  • Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization and with outside clients.
  • Must be a self starter, able to work with others and to handle multiple tasks.
