The Field technician is located in Portland, Oregon and typically reports directly to the Design Supervisor. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • In the great outdoors, gather detailed electric utility line information and other utility pole attached information
  • All information will be electronically gathered by utilizing a “state of the art” recording instrument
  • Beginning steps include understanding which geographical area is being surveyed and utilizing GPS coordinates to locate utility poles
  • By following a standardized collection protocol, information will be entered into the recording instrument
  • Understand and follow the practices and procedures pertaining to technical matters in one or more of the following areas:

a) Electrical Engineering

b) Surveying

c) NESC codes, requirements and regulations

d) Joint attachment audits and pole loading software

  • Perform tasks such as digitizing, copying and scanning of drawings, prints and maps
  • Follow quality practice and procedures by self-checking all work product
  • Follow safety procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Maintain the recording instrument to ensure accurate and reliable data collection
  • Process and finalize survey maps that have been used in the field survey

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum (1) year experience, preferably in an utility environment or transferable skills to adapt to an utility environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in field surveying procedures
  • Analytical competence to interact with a variety of individuals including engineers, clients and experienced Distribution System Designers
  • Knowledge of pole loading software a BIG PLUS but not required
  • Communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with all levels in the organization and with outside clients
  • Computer skills are also needed
  • Must be a self-starter able to work with others and to handle multiple tasks
