The IT Systems Engineer position is located at the Teck Acute Care Centre site in Vancouver and reports to the Facility Manager.

The IT Systems Engineer’s role is to provide technical support in the configuration, enhancement, monitoring, maintenance, optimization and support of all aspects of IT and low voltage electrical systems within the Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC). The IT Systems Engineer will also participate in assigned project work providing their technical skills and subject matter expertise. They will collaborate with a wide range of technical specialists, project managers, as well as external vendors and IT service providers in order to ensure successful results.

The IT Systems Engineer will complete assigned daily systems operations, and support project team activities by effectively combining personal initiative, knowledge, technical skill and subject matter expertise related to the TACC’s low voltage building systems including IT hardware and software assets, including servers, storage devices, networks, telecommunications, systems security, administration, and monitoring platforms.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Configure, enhance, monitor, maintain, repair, optimize and support the BC Childrens and Women’s Hospital Teck Acute Care Centre IMIT, communication, electronic safety and security systems in order to ensure ongoing system operations.
  • Provide afterhours support, both remotely and in person on site, as needed.
  • Create, review, escalate, coordinate and update service tickets with customers and vendors.
  • Investigate, diagnose and rectification of all IT and low voltage electrical related systems from first line support to urgent escalations related to IT and non-IT service delivery within Teck Acute Care Centre (TACC)
  • Coordinate with joint effort to rectify critical life escalations related to IT/ life safety systems with customers and vendors.
  • Monitor and test IT and low voltage electrical related systems performance and provide performance statistics and reports.
  • Practice server, storage and network asset management, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform systems improvements, upgrades, repairs and refresh.
  • Maintain the change management lifecycle for ongoing changes.
  • Participate in the review of processes, identify trends in deficiencies of the systems, provide recommendations, implement and create efficiencies for improvements.
  • Actively contribute with other operational support team members, project team members, management, external vendors and IT service providers in order to successfully execute support and project related work.
  • Test and troubleshoot parts, assemblies and field devices.
  • Test and repair life safety systems.
  • Update documentation (drawings, specifications, O&M manuals, etc.) related to IT services.
  • Recommend the ordering of stock for IT and electronic supplies; maintains the inventory and storage of such supplies.
  • Complete maintenance records and work orders.
  • Supervises all work associated with electronics and IT operations to contractors and train staff in conducting basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Continual evaluation of Facility equipment (electronics, low voltage and IT related systems) to ensure infrastructure and equipment are operating efficiently to meet the intent of the original design. (Health Safety systems; Nurse call, RTLS, Vocera, Duress, Security cameras, etc.)
  • Conduct Minor Work projects by reviewing plans, drawings and specifications; provides preliminary cost estimates; liaises with trades, user departments and contractors. (All Low voltage and IT related Minor Works)
  • Respond and assist with CWH TACC Facility Emergency Codes: Nurse call Code Blue, Code Red, Code Orange, etc)
  • Maintain, evaluate and revise low voltage and IT related system documentations, preventive maintenance, demand maintenance work orders and inventory control.
  • Conducts weekly work review audits and performs daily site walk through inspections of active and non-active systems.
  • Review work orders to determine appropriate priority and classification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; including non-IT related duties and assisting other maintenance trades.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Preferred Certifications:
    • Computer Degree
    • ITIL
    • A++
    • MCSE
    • Network +
  • College diploma in Systems Engineering, Computing Science, or equivalent experience is preferred
  • Minimum of three years of experience in the information technology industry in an environment supporting a North American wide organization
  • Education and experience in networking infrastructure (working knowledge of/ and pursuing CCNA or above certification).
  • Education and knowledge of virtual system environments (working knowledge of/ and pursuing VMware or Microsoft server certification).
  • ITIL Education and experience
  • Constant update on technology to upkeep knowledge on current electronic, low voltage and IT technology

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the information technology industry in an environment supporting a North American wide organization.
  • Working knowledge of industry practices, current technology, and project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge and experience in perimeter and logical security environments (working knowledge of intrusion security concepts such as access control; intrusion systems, security cameras, etc.).
  • Constant update on technology to upkeep knowledge on current electronic, low voltage and IT technology.

  • Must be able to pass RCMP Criminal Record Check

This is a union position, compensation for this role is a starting pay range between $49.25 - $56.22/hour dependent on education, skills and experience.
