The Painter/General Maintenance Worker is located at the Teck Acute Care Centre site in Vancouver and reports directly to the Facility Manager.

The Painter/General Maintenance Worker is responsible for facility painting and general maintenance and
repairs to rooms and room amenities, including drywall repair and painting, and hanging/installing pictures,
signage, whiteboards, bulletin boards etc.

  • Prepare areas for painting by cleaning, repairing & patching surfaces
  • Mix, match, and apply paint to various surfaces as required
  • Perform various duties to maintain the Facility including work associated with carpentry, furniture, drywall, painting, mechanical & plumbing repairs
  • Hang/install wall protection, signage, shelving, artwork, whiteboards and bulletin boards
  • Assist with obtaining quotes related to painting and finishing projects
  • Provide repairs and preventative maintenance to locks, doors & door closing systems
  • Responsible for replacing locks, hinges, changing cores and adjusting door closers
  • Assist other maintenance trades and perform other duties, e.g. changing filters or fan belts, preparing HVAC & plumbing systems for operation or winterization
  • Recommends the ordering of paint and job related supplies; maintains related inventory and storage of such supplies
  • Assist in grounds keeping and snow removal
  • Performs daily rounds and log readings
  • Complete maintenance records and work orders; input histories and comments as required
  • Observe and implement safety regulations and practices
  • Maintain the cleanliness of all shops and mechanical rooms

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in all aspects of facility maintenance, preferably in a hospital environment

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Basic general maintenance knowledge and/or experience relating to repairs for furniture, painting, dry wall, door hardware
  • Knowledge of the Health and Safety Act and all applicable CSA Codes
  • Must be able to speak, read & write in English
  • Must work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the regulations including but not limited to: use or wear of equipment or protective devices or clothing for safety purposes, report any known contravention of this Act or regulations or the existence of any hazards
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
  • Follow instructions both written and verbal
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees and customer
  • Maintain clear and courteous two way radio and/or phone etiquette
