Summary of Position

Black & McDonald Limited is actively seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to be located at a client facility in Orillia, Ontario. The Maintenance Mechanic will maintain, upgrade, troubleshoot and repair all mechanical devices within the grounds to achieve optimum life span of equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Work shall include but not necessarily be bound by the following:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of functional operation of various piping systems by measuring, cutting, threading, grinding and bending of pipes, valves and fittings to maintain the proper operation of the industrial steam plant
  • Read and interpret drawings, blue prints and specifications to determine layout requirements
  • Plan, measure, assemble and install pipes, valves and fittings according to blue prints and job specifications
  • Utilize testing equipment to identify leaks in the system
  • Identify piping materials by grade and/or description
  • Perform all tasks related to the safe and efficient operation of the Steam Boiler plant including repairs and maintenance
  • Perform routine inspection and testing of equipment to ensure proper operation
  • Performs water analysis on boilers. Complete daily, weekly, monthly log report
  • Maintain the chemical and spare parts inventory
  • Utilize oxy/acetylene hand torches, grinders and bevellers in an efficient and safe manner
  • Recognize spool hoisting points and utilize proper rigging techniques and signals
  • Cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system
  • Clean and maintain pipe units, fitting and flush systems
  • Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system
  • General maintenance duties and other duties as assigned

Education & Skill Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Steamfitter-Pipefitter Journeyperson license
  • Stationary Engineer designation is an asset
  • Strong trouble shooting and interpersonal skills
  • Bending and lifting required; lifting under 30kg
  • Must be able to climb stairs and to work on a ladder or scaffold as required
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of material grades, wall thickness, fitting ratings and pipe diameters
  • Must be able to work under minimal supervision
