The Building Operator will fulfill day to day tasks in a timely manner ensuring that the building operates safely and efficiently. The primary responsibilities of the Building Operator are to respond to work orders and internal requests generated by our clients in a safe and efficient manner. The position also requires compliance with Black & McDonald codes of conduct, health, safety and environmental policies and safe work practices along with any client specific protocol. Vehicle will be provided to perform all duties.

  • Ensure a safe working environment and adhere to all relevant health, safety and environmental policies and procedures by all stakeholders
  • Ensure all work areas are maintained in a clean and safe working condition
  • Plan and execute routine inspections and maintenance according to contractual requirements
  • Perform routine inspections, maintenance and repairs to building mechanical and HVAC systems
  • Perform shift tours and log readings (equipment status, temperatures and pressures)
  • Startup/shut down and preventive maintenance on major building equipment
  • All water treatment duties
  • Diesel, fire alarm and life safety tests
  • Maintain comfort levels to building environment and respond to environment/comfort complaints
  • Perform all types of general building maintenance and repairs
  • Electrical trouble shooting and minor repair
  • Perform daily regular duties, equipment adjustment and minor plumbing repairs

  • Minimum 5th Class Power Engineer


  • Experience in the maintenance and repair of complex building systems and equipment
  • Previous experience with BAS and HVAC systems
  • Excellent trouble shooting and interpersonal skills


  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Maintain a professional demeanour at all times with fellow employees and customers
  • Maintain clear and courteous two-way radio and/or phone etiquette
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures and adhere to company standards
  • Must be able to meet and pass the requirements of a Federal Security Clearance (PWGSC)
  • Willing and able to travel
  • License requirements Class 5
  • Must be able to work on ladder or scaffold at various heights and to work in confined spaces
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 kg (bending and lifting is required)
