Black & McDonald is currently seeking an experienced full-time Building Operator to join our Facilities Management & Operations team in Vancouver! The Building Operator position is located in the Lower Mainland and will report directly to the Project Manager.

The Building Operator will be responsible for performing facility inspections to ensure safe operation of the buildings and grounds. They will perform preventative and corrective maintenance tasks in accordance with Provincial Health and Safety regulations and Black & McDonald best practices. The Building Operator will be responsible for a single care home facility located in Vancouver, BC. The ideal candidate must have several years experience in Building Operations and be able to work independently. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assist the Project Manager to develop cost estimates for required repairs and minor works projects
  • Provide access and operational support to subcontractors performing work on our behalf, verify that required work is completed and report any deficiencies with proposed remedial actions
  • Monitor Building Automation System
  • Schedule and co-ordinate work activities with other subcontractors
  • Perform mechanical rounds and log readings
  • Respond to tenant requests
  • Perform duties such as cleaning, painting, snow removal, HVAC adjustments, filter maintenance, minor plumbing maintenance and general building repair
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times with the client, fellow employees and the general public who visit the facilities
  • Prepare site inspection reports
  • Request materials and supplies
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures
  • Ensure all work areas are maintained in a clean and safe working environment
  • Maintain a safe, respectful work environment and report unsafe conditions

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • 4th Class or higher Power Engineering or other Trades Certification is preferred but not required

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of experience in building operations
  • Knowledge and experience in building automated systems and HVAC systems
  • Previous experience working in facilities would be preferred

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Available for on call standby duties and emergency out of hours call outs
  • Clean Class 5 BC Driver’s License and abstract
  • Occasional travel within the Lower Mainland may be required
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times with fellow employees and customers
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Excel, Word & Outlook
  • Must be able to successfully clear a Criminal Record background check
