ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Black & McDonald’s Western Utility team is growing! If you are an independent, enthusiastic, and driven professional searching for an opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The Foreman is located in Calgary and will work on civil utility construction projects in and around Calgary. The Foreman typically reports directly to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
The Foreman will assist with overall project performance and status from start to finish and in accordance with schedule, specifications and budget. They manage labour and subcontractor schedules, safety, and quality, and keep management well-informed of progress, discrepancies, questions, and any impacts on project plan and schedule. Duties and responsibilities include:
- Establish and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders including Black & McDonald team members, clients, consultants, joint venture partners, trades, subcontractors, vendors, suppliers, and the community, while keeping them informed of relevant information
- Assist in planning and preparing schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines
- Comply and ensure work is performed in compliance with applicable HSE legislation and company policies and procedures, contract requirements, and Black & McDonald policies and procedures
- Lead a team comprised of labour and subcontractors towards successful project completion
- Assist the project team to ensure project objectives, schedule, budget, cash flow, policies, procedures, and performance standards are met in accordance with company policy and contract specifications
- Participate and collaborate with the project team to plan and prepare construction schedules and milestones and execute project(s) on time, within budget, and in accordance with corporate policy
- Report on potential problems on site, problem solve towards effective resolution

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree or Diploma in the following are considered an asset:
- · Construction Engineering Technology
The following certifications/designations are considered an asset:
- Gold Seal Certification
- Construction safety certifications
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 5+ years as a Foreman in the construction industry
- Project experience in shallow utilities installation and underground residential development
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Proficient knowledge and understanding of:
- Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
- Blue print reading
- Project structural design interpretation
- Familiarity with Fortis, Enmax, Atco, Shaw and Telus specifications
- Established construction practices, procedures and techniques for trenching/backfilling, sand padding, conduit and cable installation
- Applicable local and provincial labour codes
- Managing / leading union and non-union staff
- Organization and time management
- Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Project)
- Willing and able to travel to sites around Calgary
- Valid Alberta Driver’s License
