The Human Resources Generalist will be accountable for overseeing and facilitating all Human Resources functions within the Southwest Ontario Region of Black & McDonald. Additional responsibility include overseeing the hourly payroll and payroll related functions. The ideal candidate for this position must have exceptional organizational and prioritization skills with a high attention to detail and confidentiality.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Workforce planning and full cycle recruitment including screening, interviews, reference checks, and employment letters
  • Provide new hire orientation and onboarding for new employees as well as prepare termination packages and attend termination meetings
  • Plan human resource requirements in conjunction with Regional Vice President and Division Managers
  • Deploy Human Resources initiatives regionally and provide HR communication to region as provided by Corporate People Resources
  • Act as conduit for information from corporate programs to regional leadership.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of the regional people strategy in alignment with the regions short and long-term business strategies.
  • Responsible for Annual Administration of Employee Survey Program and the corresponding action plans to improve employee engagement.
  • Manage regional use of HRIS system by maintaining and update manual and computerized filing and registration systems, including related data entry
  • Policy implementation and guidance for managers and supervisors with guidance, assistance and direction on employee relations
  • Create and maintain training and career development plans
  • Provide HR support to all staff on personnel issues/requests
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with Corporate HR initiatives and processes
  • Administer benefits and employee and family assistance programs
  • Administer monthly union remittances, liaise with unions and temp agencies as required
  • Manage short-term absences and liaison with group insurance provider for LTD as required
  • Participate in National Human Resources Council activities.
  • Other related duties as required, including Monthly bank reconciliations

COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Solid understanding of employment legislation including applicable Employment Standards Act and the Human Rights Code.
  • Understanding of monthly remittances of Union Dues, WSIB, Manulife payments and other government related payments

EDUCATION & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related field
  • 3–5 years’ experience in Human Resources, and/or relevant Industrial Relations, CHRP designation or designation in progress
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
