ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY
Black & McDonald’s BIM/CAD team is growing! If you are an independent, enthusiastic, and driven professional searching for an opportunity to build a solid foundation for your career, this position is for you. The VDC Specialist (Mechanical) is located in Vaughan, ON and typically reports directly to the Mechanical Lead.
VDC Specialist (Mechanical), will be engaged in key projects and initiatives to drive new revenues and improve processes. As a part of the Virtual Design team, you will support the Project Managers in all phases of: Pre-construction Planning; Prefabrication; and BIM/ CAD detailing throughout the construction process.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- With a focus on mechanical system (i.e. plumbing / piping, etc.) this position will be responsible for the preparation of engineering contract drawings, details and sketches from conceptual design through tender to construction documents for building structures using Autodesk REVIT MEP, Autodesk Fabrication CadMEP, NavisWorks
- Working with Project Managers and other BIM / CAD Detailers and contribute to the success of our multi-trade projects
- Liaison with counterparts from other trades to develop clash free BIM 3D models
- Prepare 2D/ 3D mechanical layout drawings for material installation on site
- Prepare mechanical fabrication drawings for pre-fab work
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree or Diploma:
- Completion of a 2-3 year college program in engineering and drafting technology
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 3-5 years experience working in pre-fabrication/modular facilities
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Strong working knowledge of Revit, Autodesk Fabrication CADmep & Navisworks
- Experience in the efficient and effective set up of pre-fabrication / modular facilities
- Familiarity with construction products and installation methods
- Recent training and/or experience with Building Information Modeling software (Revit)
- Basic knowledge of the building code
- Proficiency with MS suite (i.e. excel, outlook, word, etc.)
- Highly organized, flexible and have the ability to work necessary hours in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
- Must be self-sufficient and take initiative and have strong attention to detail
- Be able to input data, complete and update As-builts (2D set)
- Provide support for plotting and sending of electronic files
- Perform additional duties as required
