The Radial Boom Digger (RBD) Operator is located in Edmonton AB on a multi-year project at the Edmonton Valley Line West LRT and typically reports directly to the Site Foreman. The work requires operating the RBD to perform digging, lifting and commuting to different high traffic sites in and around the LRT project footprint as well as transporting material to various work locations across Edmonton. It may also from time to time involve travel to work sites outside of Edmonton. Overtime and night shift work may be required from time to time.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Full understanding of the daily work scope safety and environmental requirements.
  • Operate the Derrick Digger in a safe and appropriate manner.
  • Fuel and Grease Equipment to maintain safe and optimal operation.
  • Be able and willing to operate other pieces of equipment such as skid steer, mini hoe etc. as required.
  • Perform pre-trip and hazard assessment checks on equipment and job site.
  • Execute daily tasks to meet productivity requirement in the field.
  • Hauling trailers to transport material eg. Pole trailer, flat deck trailer.
  • Read and interpret Ground Disturbance Permits/Locates.
  • Assist crews with other physical tasks as required.
  • Must have the ability to work independently.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma is preferred.
  • Class 3 with air at a minimum, preference will be given to candidates with a Class 1 license

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a construction industry.
  • 2+ years’ experience operating Derrick Digger Trucks installing and removing wood poles, installing street light steel poles
  • Must have an understanding of Alberta’s regulations relating to hauling, loading and load securement
  • Possess a valid, Alberta Drivers License, and a clean driving abstract

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous experience installing traffic signal poles and cantilever arms, street light davits
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License (Class 3 License)
  • Ground Disturbance II Certification
  • Confined Space Entry/Monitor
  • Fall Protection Certification
  • CSTS 2020 with WHMIS
  • Standard First Aid
