The Business Development Representative is located in Edmonton and typically reports to the Sales Leader of Alberta. You will be assigned a geographical or vertical market and will be responsible for prospecting potential new clients in the assigned market, uncovering needs, providing mechanical and HVAC related solutions; and entering into service agreements with new clients.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Researching, cold calling and setting up meetings with potential clients
  • Utilize proven sales methods to identify and solicit potential clients for future service work
  • Meet with and develop impressionable relationships with potential clients to successfully understand their needs and specific requirements
  • Assess potential client needs and resources and recommend the appropriate solution
  • Develop and maintain communications in a cooperative and professional manner with all levels of internal staff and customers
  • Work with Project Representative and provide input where non contractual HVAC related services must be tailored to suit clients’ needs
  • Develop reports and proposals as part of sales presentation to potential clients
  • Prepare sales agreements under the direction of the Sales team
  • Price the agreement according to Black & McDonald’s pricing standards
  • Prepare start-up documents for set up and attend start-up meetings with new clients
  • Keep internal software and database up to date with sales activities
  • Provide technical, process or estimating support during project design or proposal phase
  • Assist as needed in developing the customer business case for project solution
  • Lead or support detailed estimating of projects
  • Build detailed cost estimate and scope f work in conjunction with operations and sales staff
  • Assist in preparing proposals and other customer communication documents
  • Perform detailed estimating analysis to quantify cost savings or other cost benefits
  • Assist in technical or financial benchmarking as needed
  • Perform on-site data collection at customer facilities required to perform detailed estimates
  • Participate in meetings with Operations and Sales to ensure project scope and objectives, timeline and customer requirements are properly understood

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A university degree or college diploma in Business, Marketing, Engineering or related field
  • Technical knowledge or training including HVAC, mechanical or facilities would be considered an asset

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 1-3 years’ experience in sales and preparing proposals or contracts
  • Experience working in the trades would be considered an asset but not a prerequisite

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Willing and able to travel, as required
  • Competency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Competency in web based sales tracking software such as Salesforce
