Black & McDonald’s Alberta team is growing! The Roving Building Operator will have overall responsibility in maintaining client's facilities located in Edmonton and the greater Edmonton area.

As directed by the FMO Project Manager, the Roving Building Operator will coordinate, manage and inspect work and services provided by any subcontractors or service providers. The Building Operator will also fulfill other day to day tasks in a timely manner, ensuring that the building operates safely and efficiently. The position also requires compliance with Black & McDonald codes of conduct, health, safety and environmental policies and safe work practices along with any customer specific protocol.

  • Assist the on-site coordinator for the loading docks, contractors, deliveries, and general site setup and preparedness
  • Respond to environment/comfort complaints
  • Perform shift tours and log readings
  • Perform start-up/shut down and preventive maintenance on major building equipment
  • Perform water treatment duties
  • Perform diesel, fire alarm, life safety tests
  • Perform filter and belt changes
  • Perform all types of general building maintenance and repairs, including electrical troubleshooting and minor repairs; replacement of washers, faucets, sinks, clear toilets and drains, cleaning grease traps and sumps, re-pack valves, replace lamps, reset breakers
  • Order and maintain supply inventory
  • Oversee work performed by sub-trades
  • Utilizes building automation system (BAS)

  • Power engineering certification combined with significant building operations experience


  • At least 3 years of Building Operator experience in commercial buildings / facilities
  • At least 1 year experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC systems


  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent customer service skills with desire to exceed customer expectations
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills required
  • Follows instructions both, written and verbal

  • Accomplishes all duties and tasks as assigned

  • Must be able to work on ladder or scaffold at various heights
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 kg (bending and lifting is required)
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces
  • Must be available for occasional On-Call work
  • Must be able to pass the required security clearance
  • Available to travel to various facilities in Edmonton and surrounding areas. A clean drivers abstract is required for this position.
