The Field Services Technician is based out of our Moncton office and works on projects and customer sites in and around the Atlantic Provinces. The Technician reports directly to the Department Manager. Their primary focus is providing technical field services in all aspects of maintenance and commissioning of utility, commercial and industrial low/high voltage power systems. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the maintenance, installation, and repair of medium/high voltage substation equipment
  • Relay testing and calibration of both electronic and electromechanical relays as well as testing the various protection schemes
  • Switchgear activities on various types of breakers such as oil filled, gas filled, air magnetic and vacuum
  • Have a good understanding and follow industry standards including IEEE, NETA, CSA, ISO, ANSI, and all other relevant regulations
  • Prepare project reports by collecting, summarizing, analysing and interpreting information, drawing conclusions and making recommendations
  • Perform computer assisted task and testing and have experience with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
  • Safety oriented and follow all Black and McDonald’s company policies
  • Assess process, design, implementation and workflow variables relating to scheduling and cost controls
  • Prepare, review and edit technical drawings of electrical components and systems to ensure the application, installation and operations conform to required standards and customer requirements
  • Deliver on time and professional services, build, and maintain customer relationships
  • Other duties as required

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • · Electrical trade certification red seal interprovincial or
  • · Degree or diploma in electrical engineering technology

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 to 5 years in related field

  • Strong knowledge of electrical circuits
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Engineered drawings and diagram reading
  • Project structural design interpretation
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and analyse complex problems
  • A self-starting personality able to work individually or as part of a high functioning team committed to the success of the organization
  • A willingness to learn and grow by undertaking hands-on site
  • Flexible to work after hours and on call rotation
  • Physically fit to lift and carry electrical test equipment
  • Will be required to work indoor and outdoor
  • Willing and able to travel to various sites in and around Atlantic Provinces
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Strong Computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, Project)
  • Bilingual could be considered an asset
